The playground in Leigh (left), www.leigh-surrey.org.uk, has been established for many years but is now moribund and needs updating.  It lies next to the recreation ground and opposite the Village Hall, Post Code: RH2 8NP.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside with car parking adjacent to it, the playground should be a focal point of the village used by children of all ages and abilities from the village and surrounding areas.

PLAY (Playground for Leigh's Active Youth), a committee comprising seven parishioners with the backing of the Parish Council and of many village organisations,  intends to provide exciting and innovative new play equipment and to improve the existing area by incorporating some seating and gates.

The whole community has been invited to give their views as to what they want from the playground with an emphasis on what the children would like.  Here is a summary of the consultation of the older children.

P L A Y - latest news

The first new equipment was installed in the play area during the summer.  Three 'springers' and an adventurous installation 'Toddlers' Kingdom' are now being used by children of Leigh.

Working with the Forestry Commission, the final plans have been prepared, and the first more 'natural' equipment has been installed: a Zip Wire and birds nest swings have been erected and are ready for use (25 December 2008).

The P L A Y Committee and Leigh activities continue to raise funds.  In the meantime applications for grants are being made for the final phase for which £58,000 are required.
